The official notification has been released that one of the most important exams for admission to engineering colleges in Karnataka, COMEDK 2018, has been scheduled to take place on May 13, 2018. The notification includes the important dates, eligibility criteria, qualifying process etc.
This was released by the concerned authority of this exam. With less than four months to prepare for the exam, it becomes all the more important for all engineering aspirants to be aware of the latest notifications.
According to the official notifications released by the official source, an exciting opportunity awaits the engineering aspirants with around 20,000 seats through 150 Engineering colleges affiliated officially with COMEDK 2018. Hence, it is essential to know of the various aspects to be fulfilled and done, in order to write this exam, and the rest of this blog will follow along these lines.
Eligible to Appear for COMEDK?
Even though COMEDK is held for admission into engineering courses in Karnataka,, students belonging to any other state can apply and also write it. With regard to the eligibility criteria, they are as follows for the engineering and architecture courses.
For admissions to engineering courses at the undergraduate level, it is mandatory for candidates to have passed 10+2 level exam or 2nd PUC or any other equivalent as recognized by any Central or State Board. The applicants should also pass the minimum eligibility cutoff percentage.
For Architecture Courses (UG), a candidate should be 10+2 level pass or 2nd PUC or any other equivalent exam with Mathematics as a compulsory subject along with other subjects. Those who have passed with a 10+3 Diploma will also be eligible provided that the diploma course is recognized by any Central or State Government. One must also pass the minimum cutoffs. The next requirement is having a NATA score of 80 out of 200 marks. This remains the same for both general merit and other categories.
How You Can Successfully Apply for the exam
Aspirants can apply from January 16 onwards on the official website. The initial step is to register first before proceeding to fill in the required details in the online application form. A successful registration will then lead to generation of user ID and password, both on the registered email id and mobile number, which is to kept aside for all future correspondence. This user ID and password can also be used to edit and complete the rest of the application form.
It is important to provide and meet all the requirements in the application form, including a valid personal email id and mobile number, scanned signature of self and guardian or parent, scanned photograph, identity proof etc. The fees for this exam can be easily paid through net banking, credit or debit card or the offline mode of bank challan through any Axis Bank branch. During this process, candidates also get to select their preferred test centers for the exam, from a list of available test centers in the state.
Scoring High: Syllabus and Exam Pattern
With regard to the syllabus for COMEDK 2018, it is usually based on 10+2 level subjects or 2nd PUC of any state or central board in India. All the NCERT topics of class 11 and class 12 are relevant and must be revised thoroughly. Sometimes, it is also extra helpful going through the CBSE textbooks of class 11 and class 12.
On a similar note, this exam will be held for a duration of 3 hours in MCQ format. There will be total of 180 marks; 60 marks for each of the three sections of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates will be relieved to know that there is no negative marking and one mark is awarded for every correct attempt. However, the medium of instruction of the exam is English.
Other Essentials: Admit Card, Answer Keys and Results
COMEDK Admit cards will be available from May 4 till May 12. It can be checked for test center address, and other details such as exam time, personal information etc. It is important to maintain the admit card till the counselling process is completed.
The actual exam will take place on May 13, 2018. After the conduction of exam, the provincial answer keys for will be released online on May 17. Candidates are then allowed to submit their queries or challenges to the answers provided in these provincial answer keys, for a minimum submission fee till May 21. These challenges submitted are then used as a base to prepare and release the final answer keys which is expected to be out by May 25.
The exam results will be out by May 28, which include the test scores and secured ranks. This makes up the entire scorecard which will be made available online, after the release of the results. However, only those candidates who will clear the exam can see their results.
A rank list also gets published apart from this result, based on the scores. It will include the complete list of candidates selected for counselling process, through which seats will be allotted. To be eligible for admissions at various institutes, candidates also have to score over the cutoffs. The cutoffs simply depend on the opening and closing ranks, that the candidates have to get, so as to have seats allotted to them by the participating institutes in COMEDK 2018. However, the cutoffs vary from one institute to another.
